Lovely Franklin Co-Founder Brandon Baril
I’m a proud Tennessee native. The hills and trees of Tennessee are what I’ve called home my whole life. I was born in Nashville, but raised in Gallatin, Tennessee for 15 years. I’m the middle child of three, with an older sister, Brittany, and younger brother, Baron.
My family moved to Franklin, Tennessee in the summer of 2016. For a city that’s grown to 80,000+ residents, I’m most impressed by the small-town charm that Franklin has reserved, and the friendliness and hospitality of the people that call Franklin home.
My favorite hobbies include going to Tennessee Titans games with my father, Chuck, and my brother. Sports is a love of my father, who was an incredible athlete growing up, playing football, baseball, basketball, track and field, and later trained for the Olympic Decathalon. I played football in the 7th and 8th grade, ran track in 8th grade and Freshman year, and I ran cross country my Freshman year at Station Camp High School.
Pure Country Brought My Family to Tennessee
My dad was pursuing a music career, and the 1992 film Pure Country, featuring country music legend George Strait, inspired him to move himself and my mom to Nashville in 1993. Country music brought my parents to Music City, USA.
My mom, Buffie, grew up in Arkansas listening to Johnny Cash, Glen Campbell, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn. As a young girl, she would sit with her Grandma Erma and watch Hee Haw on television along with The Porter Wagner Show filmed at Opryland USA.
My Roots Run Deep in Country Music
Country music quickly became my favorite genre of music. Being born in the 2000s, I grew up at a young age with the albums of Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and listening to country radio. My first ever concert was Taylor Swift opening for Rascal Flatts at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville in 2007 when I was six. My favorite artists include Kenny Chesney, Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton, Brad Paisley, and Jon Pardi.
My absolute favorite artist is Keith Urban, and he’s the reason I picked up a guitar at 11 years old. He was a headliner at this year’s Pilgrimage Festival – that was an awesome concert! I admire great songwriters too. Franklin local and my friend, Roger Murrah, was Songwriter of the Decade in 1980s. Roger has ten #1 hits and is a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Other types of music I’ve grown up on are pop and rock, with my favorite artists in those genres being Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Donny Osmond, Michael Bublé, Daughtry, Ed Sheeran, and Shawn Mendes. Click here for my EP One Way Out with Kent Wells, Dolly’s Parton’s producer!
Historic U.S. Highway 31 – aka Main Street
One of my favorite hobbies is driving the backroads of Tennessee. I love becoming familiar with all the routes, the narrow two-lanes around Williamson County and its small communities and towns. I drive from Leiper’s Fork, Kingfield, and Boston, which are west of Franklin, and all the way east to College Grove, Arrington, and Bethesda, all while jamming out to my favorite stations and playlists. It’s some of the most fun a 20-year old boy can have!
U.S. Highway 31, which is Main Street in Franklin, is a 1,280-mile route that runs from Spanish Fort in deep-southern Alabama, thru Nashville, to Mackinaw City in northern Michigan. It was one of the original 1926 transcontinental highways established by the Federal government that featured a numbering system to make routes easier for drivers to navigate the country.
Some of my bucket list to-do’s include traveling highways, like US-31, from one end to the other, and driving through all the American towns and destinations along the routes. I’d also like to visit all of Tennessee’s 95 counties and all 50 states!
Nashville’s Weather Spotter
I’m also a trained storm spotter to help Nashville’s local meteorologists and weather community. I also work with weather YouTuber, Ryan Hall Y’all for Middle Tennessee weather reporting. I’ve been fascinated by weather forecasting, severe thunderstorms, and tornadoes since I was in 1st grade. The wide majority of storm chasers in the United States chase out the Plains because of its flat terrain and ability to see storms from afar. However, I follow storms right here where the storm chasers avoid — closer to home in the hilly terrain of the Southeast! Follow my weather spotting reports on Twitter!
